File management¶
This page shows how you can organize your files in Metaflow by: "Project" > "Experiment" > "Files".
Project¶
A Project is the top-level group that composes of one or more "Experiments".
Aim: You will learn how to create, search for, edit, and delete a Project.
Pre-requisite
You must be logged in. See log in.
Go to the Metaflow Projects page where all your existing Projects are listed: https://apps.metaflow.bio/projects .
To create a new Project, Click on "+ New project".
- In the pop-up, fill in the new Projects' "Project name" and optionally its "Description".
- Click "Create". Your new Project will show up as a new row on your Projects page.

To search for a Project:
- Type the name of the Project you are looking for, in part or in whole, into the search bar at the top of the page.
- The Project you are looking for should be filtered as you type.

To update your Projects' information:
- Click on the
icon on the right end of your Projects' row. - Edit the fields and click "Update".
To delete your Project:
- Click on the
icon on the right end of your Projects' row. - Click "Delete".
Experiment¶
A Project can have one or more experiments.
Aim: You will learn how to view, create, edit, and delete an Experiment.
Pre-requisite
You must have at least one Project created. See Project.
Go to the Metaflow Projects page: https://apps.metaflow.bio/projects .
To view existing Experiments, click on the
icon on the right end of your Project's row to expand it.

To create an Experiment, click on the
icon on the right end of your Project's row.
- In the pop-up, fill in the new Experiments' "Experiment name" and optionally its "Description".
- Click "Create". Your new Experiment will show up as a new row under your selected Poject.

To update your Experiments' information:
- Click on the
icon on the right end of your Experiments' row. - Edit the fields and click "Update".
To delete your Experiment:
- Click on the
icon on the right end of your Experiments' row. - Click "Delete".
File¶
An Experiment is the lowest-level group that contain all your uploaded files. Each experiment can contain one or more files.
Aim: You will learn how to view and upload files into an Experiment.
Pre-requisite
You must have at least one Experiment. See Experiment.
Go to the Metaflow Projects page and expand a Project to view an existing Experiment.
To view your Experiment, click on the
icon on the right end of your Experiments' row. By default, you will be in the "FCS files" tab of your Experiments page.

To upload your files:
- Click on "Add FCS Files +".
- Drag and drop your FCS files into the pop-up or click "Browse" to browse and select the files you want to upload. Metaflow will upload and check the integrity of your files.
- Click "Next".
- You can optionally click "Add spillover" to upload CSV format spillover matrices if you do not want to use the ones embedded in your FCS files.
- You can also check over your files. If you see that you accidentally uploaded a file that you did not want to upload, you can click the
icon to remove it.
- Click "Done".
- Note: You can add more files to your Experiment in the future. There is no limit to the number of files you can upload per Experiment as long as the total amount of space you occupy on the server stays within the limit specified by your license.
